The Somewhere Places Lab & Festival, under the resonant theme “ART at the CORE, PLACES at the CENTER,” was hosted at Tilal Utique by the Kamel Lazaar Foundation from October 7th to 12th, 2024. This marked the latest chapter in a deeply rooted, ongoing collaboration between the Foundation and the Somewhere Places Initiative, building upon the foundational work of the 2023 Lab held on the same grounds.
More than a celebration of global artistic expression, this edition strategically positioned art as an essential catalyst for community-driven transformation. The festival was meticulously designed to forge deep, lasting connections with the local Tunisian context, ensuring that its impact was both meaningful and sustainable. It served as a vibrant platform where immersive installations, performances, and participatory workshops became tools for dialogue, empowerment, and addressing tangible community aspirations. This gathering represented the evolution of a proven methodology. Drawing from the legacy of previous iterations—including events in Albanyá, Spain, and prior SDG Places gatherings—the 2024 festival demonstrated a refined commitment to creating practical, arts-integrated frameworks that deliver measurable social and cultural outcomes. By fostering a unique convergence of international artists, local stakeholders, and global partners, the initiative reinforced its core mission: to position the arts not as a peripheral activity, but as a central, indispensable force for inclusive stakeholder engagement and a more connected, empathetic world.
