The Global Diplomacy Lab (GDL) Festival made its historic debut in Tunisia from October 12th to 15th, 2023, hosted at the Kamel Lazaar Foundation's captivating venue, Tilal Utique. Gathering GDL members, leading partners, and the Secretariat, the festival celebrated a decade of pioneering work, having convened over 40 transformative Labs on topics ranging from feminist foreign policy and water diplomacy to climate action and inclusive cities, collectively embodying the ethos of Diplomacy 4.0.
Convened against a global backdrop of escalating conflict, the festival critically examined the evolving landscape of international relations, strongly reaffirming the indispensable role of inclusive, multi-stakeholder dialogue. It provided a distinctive platform for reflection and forward-thinking, uniting both longstanding and new members to collectively chart the Lab's strategic future. This new direction is decisively pivoting towards trust-building and concrete collective action as essential mechanisms for conflict resolution.
Marking a significant evolution in its mission, the GDL committed to a rigorous process of evaluating its activities to extract practical insights from past Labs. These learnings will be systematically translated into tangible diplomatic tools—including innovative methodologies for inclusive negotiation, actionable policy toolkits, and evidence-based recommendations. This commitment underscores the GDL's dedication to moving beyond dialogue to generate concrete, field-tested resources that actively shape the future of global diplomatic practice.
