Chehine Dhahak

Independent image designer born in Tunis, Chehine Dhahak is a lover of cinema and art history. He graduated in 2011 with a degree in Audiovisual Advertising from the School of Design Sciences and Technologies (ESSTED), followed by a Research Master's in Cinematic Praxis from the Higher School of Audiovisual and Cinema (ESAC) in Gammarth. Since then, cinema and photography have occupied a prominent place in his work a constantly evolving quest for fleeting beauty found between space-time and the instinct of the moment. With his camera, he portrays a certain social satire within a society in transition. Contrasting with the pace of modern life, his cynical and nomadic images find their intensity in both urban and rural environments. His artistic practice is a continuous dialogue between cinema, art history, and sociology, fueling a deeply instinctive approach to image-making. Whether through street photography or conceptual series, he captures the "instinct of the moment," focusing on the tactile nature of analog processes and the timeless depth of blackand-white grain. His career is marked by international and local recognition, including a collective exhibition at the European Parliament (2012) and participation in prominent events such as Le Printemps des Arts de la Marsa (2012).Regard croisè; hammam of Tunis (2014) More recently, he has showcased his work at the Maison de l’Image ("Tbarbich", 2019) and the TGM Gallery, where he was featured as an "Emerging Artist" in 2024. The year 2026 marks a significant milestone in his career with the realization of the multidisciplinary project "Racines de Résistance" in Gabès, a sensitive exploration of territory and identity. That same year, his technical expertise and singular vision were honored with the First Prize for Photography at the Gabès Cinema Fen festival. Dhahak’s latest contributions to the visual arts include the publication of his photobook "Dhia3 Nesbi" (2025) and his solo exhibition "Vagabondage" at the Nawat Festival (2023). Beyond his personal creation, he shares his expertise through workshops and residencies, mentoring others in the art of the mechanical gaze

RAYDIUS: Photographic Group Project in Tilal Utique:

A cohort of six photographers will be invited to participate. Together with German curator Michael Gleich, they will create a series of documentary-artistic portraits. The protagonists are ordinary people. They live in the vicinity of the new Tilal Utique event center (30 minutes from Tunis). Some work there, others are farmers, imams, athletes, artists, etc. in the surrounding area.

Purpose of the project: To use photography as a medium to strengthen the bond between the place and the people around it and to express appreciation for the protagonists. The result will be an “open studio” at the end of the production period, to which the protagonists, employees of the Kamel Lazaar Foundation, and guests of Tilal Utique will be invited. An exhibition there is also under discussion.

The curator will provide a few guidelines for the project (e.g., black-and-white photography), leaving room for the photographers' own styles, ideas, and interpretations of portrait photography.
