Tilal Utique

A City of Arts and Ecology of Knowledge

Tilal Utique is a contemporary City of Arts where art, nature, and knowledge are considered inseparable components of the same cultural project. Located between Tunis and Bizerte, on the historical site of ancient Utica, it is among the most recent achievements of the Kamel Lazaar Foundation.

Designed as a long-term commitment to creation and dialog between cultures, Tilal Utique is part of a philanthropic approach focused on Tunisia and the global majority. It affirms a broadly understood ecological approach, attentive to the balances between creation, natural environments, resource use, and forms of knowledge and transmission.

An Open and Vibrant Ecosystem

The estate includes three interconnected spaces: an artist's residence, the Bayti inns, in addition to a charming house called Dar Nyssiane (the house of forgetfulness) where art, ecology, the excellence of Tunisian handicraft, and hospitality are closely intertwined.

Tilal Utique is part of a process of integration into the ancient rural fabric that surrounds it. From its first phase of development, the site generated about forty direct jobs for the inhabitants of neighboring villages, including more than 90% within the permanent team. This local inscription constitutes one of the foundations of the project, associating Tunisian artisanal, agricultural, culinary and hospitality knowledge with contemporary forms of creation.
